Marktconsultatie

Vopak and Gasunie’s mission extends beyond ensuring a reliable and stable energy supply. We are committed to playing a pivotal role in supporting a carbon-neutral network that benefits all providers and consumers. Our aim is to facilitate a seamless transition towards renewable energy sources, enhancing the resilience and sustainability of the energy system. By investing in and upgrading our infrastructure, we strive to create an environment that not only meets today’s energy demands but also anticipates and adapts to the energy transition.

The objective of this market consultation is to gain deeper insights into the ambitions and forthcoming strategies of market parties in relation to the energy supply and possible transition paths. This will enable us to effectively adjust and optimize the necessary import and export infrastructure to align with these objectives.

The EemsEnergyTerminal has been operational since the first gas delivery on September 16th, 2022, and since then successfully serviced more than 100 LNG vessels. The LNG import has contributed significantly to the gas supply of North western Europe. The quick development of the EemsEnergyTerminal is seen as one of the most important and successful projects in Europe to become less dependent of Russian gas.

Currently, the LNG import contracts will end in the second half of 2027. Vopak and Gasunie are investigating the possibilities to further utilize the current infrastructure after 2027. By conducting this market consultation Vopak and Gasunie would like to receive input from market parties related to future import demand of energy carriers. The response is a key factor in determining the future operations and activities of the terminal from September 2027 and onwards.

For the period beyond September 2027, Vopak and Gasunie will explore the extension of LNG import capacities to the market and (in parallel), the gradual decarbonisation of the energy import flows by facilitating low or zero carbon hydrogen (derivatives) import, via floating and or land based configurations. Via the newly constructed Dutch Hydrogen Network, hydrogen gas could be delivered directly to end-users. In addition, Vopak and Gasunie are already exploring the development of CO2 transport and export facilities in the Eemshaven and Delfzijl region, which could also create interesting synergies in the future.

Vopak and Gasunie are interested to learn about your plans and ambitions for energy imports through the Eemshaven harbour. Via the questionnaire, more detailed information on the timing and capacities for continued LNG imports and/or your vision on the developments of renewable energy alternatives is kindly requested.
After submitting the questionnaire, you may be contacted to follow-up on the information provided.

Completing a questionnaire was possible until 31 July 2024. The market consultation is now closed.
